DR101-60 is a compact, mobile and splash-proof digital handheld refractometer. Thanks to the automatic temperature compensation for the BRIX scale, a reproducible measurement can be achieved even under changing ambient conditions. As a waterproof device, the handheld refractometers meet the IP65 standard and can be cleaned under running water. It is used in the food and beverage industry, in pharmacies, laboratories and testing laboratories as well as in research and teaching.
Basic functions
- Measurement range: nD 1.3330-1.4419 and 0-60%Brix
- Mobile automatic measurement at the touch of a button
- Reproducible measurements that are not dependent on the user’s interpretation
- Automatic temperature compensation (BRIX scale)
- Quick filling and cleaning
- With high-quality, fully chrome-plated measuring trough
- Robust housing and low device weight
Application Digital refractometers
The DR101-60 delivers reliable and reproducible measurements. Thanks to its digital measured value acquisition with automatic temperature compensation, subjective user interpretations are no longer necessary – the result can be validated and is reliable at all times.
With its resolution (nD 0.0001 and 0.1 %Brix), the device covers a wide range of measurements for samples and applications. At the same time, the digital handheld refractometer only requires a minimum sample volume (0.3 ml), which makes the measurement process particularly efficient.
In short, many customers rely on the DR101-60 because it combines high accuracy (nD ±0.0005; ±0.35 %Brix), ease of operation and maximum flexibility for a wide variety of samples.
Application example chemical industry
- Valid norms/standards: AOAC, OIML, ASTM, DIN,CID
- Application: Quality and purity control of raw materials or end products (alcohols, acids, bases, mordants, surfactants)
- Monitoring of chemical processes during production (monitoring raw material solutions, preventing over-concentration, saving raw materials)
- Advantage: Portable, fits in any pocket, very versatile, e.g. also for fuel deliveries from tanker trucks.
Application example hospitals and pharmacies
- Valid norms/standards: Pharmacopoeias (BP,JP, Ph. Eur.), GLP
- Application: Outgoing goods inspection or analysis of raw materials. Control of drugs according to Pharmacopoeia (infusion solutions, blood serums, pills, pastes, dialysis preparations) or analysis of body secretions
- Advantage: High reliability, reliable measurement accuracy thanks to automatic temperature compensation
- The scales can be read digitally. Clear, reliable results regardless of the user’s previous knowledge!
Temperature compensation
A KRÜSS Optronic handheld refractometer with automatic temperature compensation (ATC) provides exact measured values at all times, without the need for time-consuming tempering of the sample or complex conversions.
The result: stable, comparable and standard-compliant Brix values, even if the temperature of the sample is between 10 °C and 30 °C.
How does automatic temperature compensation (ATC) work?
- The refractometer measures the refractive index of the sample.
- A built-in temperature sensor simultaneously measures the sample temperature.
- The device converts the measured value to 20 °C using the ICUMSA formula. The corrected Brix value appears, regardless of whether the sample is at 15 °C or 30 °C, for example.

Cleaning tips
-
The DR101-60 is very robust, compact and lightweight (160g) and can be cleaned under running water (IP 65). It is therefore versatile and ideal for frequently changing samples in the laboratory, production and quality assurance or for fuel checks or antifreeze tests.
-
The smooth stainless steel sample tray and the high-quality glass prism are designed in such a way that a wide variety of samples can be applied particularly easily. Residues can be removed quickly and completely – even with challenging sample types.
